about

Mayumi wrote this song in 2019 in Byron Bay, one of her favourite places in the world. She finally recorded it in mid 2020 after she discovered the freedom of music and took ownership of her love of playing guitar, especially her steel string Maton guitar.

She expresses her deepest fondness of musicians she has worked with before, on this new song. Influences include Alanna Eileen and Common Holly.

lyrics

on a cold winter's evening when my heart was beating and I wore my black dress with a choker on the neck
I was shivering in the studio and I said no, I don't need to wear your coat, I am happy as I am

I'm always one to say no to little things that I hold
I've always been a recluse, so many things I do miss

you were sharp and you were just helping me get myself up cause my mind was fragile and my limbs had become weak
so every day the water ran over my shoulders and I often did dream of a life that was like theirs

and when I was happier often I went to the store
I was so happy that I loved all the fabric and dyes

where do you come from? I'd been wondering on my long walk
where do you come from? i'd been wondering as we did talk

was a cold winter's evening never took any beating when you stood right in front of me and offered me some soup
I said yes and I sat down and I felt I was so proud that I was at the table with soup and both of you

I can tell you a story that at the time I didn't
this is who I really am, I am a different kind

where do I now go, I've been wondering on my morning
where do I now go, for I have a vision that's sonic

all I say to you old friend is thank you for all this last century has been missed and it has fallen to the curb
was a cold winter's evening while my heart was beating that I know I do keep and the songs that I did sing

I'm always one to say no, but it was you who didn't
you played it, I have the world, for me there's no place called home
