Troy 02:43
when i saw him on his front porch carrying a torch in the morning cold, was a dark night when he slammed the door i don't know what he took me for maybe it was he reminded me of a love i lost in the falling year, maybe he was just a ghostly replica of him no longer here he loved my photo but it was for you when i came to, it all came true was a dark day when i lay down on the street and waited a long time try as i can to blacken the memory of the tin cans thought i was a hero that i went back to zero try as i can to blacken the memory of the walking man he was the hero, when i was at zero you left me alone, you left me alone

I had a dream you told me to find a book of poetry to keep you in mind but set my heart free you gave me some names, some titles to seek so I'll no longer be weak all I was seeking was the answer to a simple question is there time left or am I wrongly guessing to my life you were such a blessing I don't want to let go all of my life made up for so it was worth living by the sweet heart you somehow kept on giving in my mind I came to believe in something I'll never know I'm awake today in a dreamy haze I can still see the smile upon your face since I've known you I've stopped counting days counting my life away since I can't set myself free you do it for me you tell me to awaken to my calling but I'm still here and I'm still falling deeper and deeper in love I had a dream you told me to find a book of poetry to keep you in mind but set my heart free you gave me some names, some titles to seek so I'll no longer be weak

Once upon a time I lived in the Eastern suburbs of Sydney, where subtropical trees grew, frangipani flowers littered the streets and I lived in dreams. Dreams of long hair, laughter, bony limbs, small breasts and music festivals. The year 2022 is subtropical for me. I’m going home. I’m meeting a girl. We fall in love. The best movie I’ve seen in the past few years is When Marnie Was There. It’s a Japanese anime that implies girl on girl love in a subtle way so you’re left to wonder. My love will be like that, with all the behind the scenes that aren’t in the movie. Two girls, we can call ourselves that because we look like girls Both in size 10 jeans, faded blue and faded black Long hair, different colours, Bracelets, guitars, and butterfly kisses In clean urban apartments, dark bars, the front lawn of a party or the harbour front I’ll light a candle soon and things will unfold My girlfriend will do all the things with me that I've never done with men. Trips to the country, dancing at gigs holding hands, sleepovers that have a certain quality that is in between friendship and what couples do, because sometimes we giggle about guys on those nights, intermittently kissing. If I’m asking the universe for anything this year, this is what I’m asking for. Dream big.

since you asked for a melody with your names to be in it since you asked I am giving all I can there is sweetness at the end of this for me thanks to you and I am going home at last Mark and Elizabeth oh how far we've come you have been my saviours can you hear I'm not crying on a piano though I know how to play it it's the instrument of love I have chosen my trusty nylon string guitar I am not mistaken in thanking you I am a free agent from now on I am so grateful to both of you Mark and Elizabeth you have changed my world for good and that's all it takes to see his heart was good and that's all it takes to see his heart was good since there's time left for laughing here's a gift for departing je t'aime mes amis j'espère que vous allez bien when tomorrow comes I'll be living in my hometown once again breathing in the salty air loving someone who loves me thank you mark and elizabeth

about

This album marks the beginning of an indefinite break in Mayumi’s time as a recording and performing musician although some gigs in Tokyo, for her enthusiastic fans and family in Japan, are still on the cards for a future year, and as for local gigs and future recording she will see where the wind takes her. The album title is taken from '2022 girl manifestation', a spoken word piece about fulfilling new desires and exploring a shiny new world.

"Troy" sees Mayumi move onto piano accompaniment for her vocals, where previously she has always played guitar in her work as Mayumi Mullins. "Troy" is a haunting song about love, anorexia and saviourship, part truth, part fiction. Mayumi continues with piano accompaniment for "Book of Poetry", a song with a somewhat more fairytale-like quality written quite a long time ago when she still knew the person who was the greatest muse in her life and the theme of most of her music. Mayumi debated whether or not to record "2022 girl manifestation" as it is a purely spoken word piece with rain and thunder and no instruments in the background, but her verdict was that it belongs in this album as a signifier of change, progress, and a new life moving to Sydney in 2022.

Finally, the album concludes with "For Mark and Elizabeth", two mysterious friends Mayumi has acquired over the past year who have guided her in such a direction that she feels able to catch a train back to her hometown with all her happiness, freedom, and a world of opportunity which awaits.
