Mayumi Mullins wrote and recorded Message in early 2018. It was an unstable time which she has come back to appreciate by re-releasing these songs. Her guide at the time was a tarot reader from Italy called Anna who she found in a rug shop in Northcote, where she was invited to play guitar to customers who came into the shop. They all sat around in an indoors yurt drinking tea while Mayumi played her songs. "When the page of cups knew the king of pentacles" was directly inspired by a tarot reading from Anna. In those days, Mayumi was unemployed and unoccupied and her life consisted of strange things like tarot readings, visiting the crystal shop in Northcote, and walking around the suburbs. She was unhappy, but playing "Sorry" at bars with all her might was cathartic and she was proud of "Message", the result of an email from a dear friend that contained the words of the lyrics. "Linger" has since been presented in a University of Melbourne playlist online and Message has taken Mayumi to interesting new places, and upon re-releasing it, will take her to great heights and wonders.
